lol streetballers thinking they could beat him 1-on-1, he should get someone to film those challenges and put it on his youtube

[–]PM_ME_UR_SHY_NUDE 210 指標 6小時前

If there was a YouTube channel dedicated to current/former NBA players taking street bets from cocky fans, I would pay to watch that shit. I want to see Kyle Singler dunk on people.

Yeah they’re idiots, Lin Lebron’d the raptors that one game and these street ballers think they can beat him? Lin would just drop threes on your face or drive to the rim and humiliate you. He got the best of Andrew Bynum that one game driving to the hole and finishing like an acrobat.

Bonus: remember when Kenyon Martin was making for of jeremy lins hair when he has a Chinese tattoo?

[–]Itsmedudeman 203

Lin isn’t even below average in the league and bench players would fucking destroy any random guy. Do people really think that the guys getting paid millions of dollars are only slightly better than them?

Same shirt happened all the time to Scalabrini and he would just school people there’s videos of it and it’s hilarious.

Yeah, the way he put it too was like: “there are 300 players in NBA. Being the worst NBA player means you’re the 300th best basketball player in the world.”

[–][LAL] Mark MadsenB0NERSTORM 54

I remember the story about how Lin was the 2nd fastest rookie behind John Wall at the combine yet a bunch of the scouting reports listed his weakness as being slow and unathletic. lol.

Part of the problem with laymans thinking they can take on NBA players is that NBA players sometimes show up on the courts to fuck around. Like a nba player in the summer will just go to a pick up game to work up a sweat in the off season and put like 10% into it, and half the guys on the court walk away thinking “hey man, I held my own against an NBA guy.” I’ve known a guy or two that are like that. They think the gap isn’t that large because some NBA bench player showed up to the park and he was able to get right by him easily or he was bricking shots. Get real man.

I wonder if Yao was a victim of these stereotypes or if he wasn’t because he was a fucking giant. Maybe they see Lin as a somewhat scrawny looking guy and think “Bruce Lee” (although Lee was fucking ripped, he wasn’t jacked. But he was shredded, but not swole) but Yao looked like a folklore legend.

Yao’s first language is not English and he was born in China, so it’s just a different situation with a translator for his career. Lin was born in America, so it’s just that people assume he’s not as “American” just because of how he looks.

[–][NYK] Chauncey Billupsanonymous920920920 51

Yao also had a good sense of humor about himself lol. He was about the shit in the NBA. He wasn’t afraid to stare guys down and trash talk dudes so I feel like racist shit wouldn’t get to him

[–]KingsYarn_Eater 106 指標 7小時前

Yao was also built like a goddamn skyscraper. Like, who’s honestly gonna fuck with him? The dudes thighs are tree trunks

Yeah, when Shaq has quoted saying trying to back Yao down in the post was like posting up against a concrete pillar you wonder if anyone could stand up to the dude physically.

Wish he wasn’t snake bitten by injuries these last two season. Lin had such an impactful season in Charlotte

I know that some people may be annoyed at how Jeremy Lin keeps bringing this up and how he has hordes of fans that like him just because he’s Asian. But as an Asian American it’s hard to overstate how much he means to me and us, someone who I can actually relate to and understands my struggles and represents real Asian Americans, not the stereotypes most people believe are true. Some people may be tired of him or be bothered that he’s so popular even though he’s just p avg, but this dude is legit my role model/hero

[–]Worthyness 62

Asian Americans will never be “American” and they aren’t asian enough to fall in with their ethnicity. It’s a common issue with immigrant children and is very isolating. Yao was considered “foreign” because he was. Lin isn’t foreign and so he’s isolated for not looking like an American despite having grown up int he country his entire life.

There is racism against asians that greatly affects us but is invisible to non-asians. For example, this month Tide made a commercial showing a black woman with a black husband, white woman with a white husband, and asian woman with a white husband. Non-asians might think this is not a big deal, but its this kind of constant imagery that affects views of asians and significantly affects our daily lives

Sometimes i walk down the street and hear some racist comments about being asian, and i always think that if i was a black person, a similar comment would be perceived as 10x more racist and completely unacceptable

That being said, this issue is getting better everyday and its articles like these that help make the US a better place for everyone

Edit: the simple fact that some people in this thread don’t see that Tide commercial to be an issue further proves my point that racism against asians are invisible to them. Im not mad at you for it, kind of is what it is. Luckily we have people like jeremy lin, who has the platform and voice to bring these issues to light. Remember when that guy on espn called jeremy lin a “chink in armor”? Come on, that was so blatantly wrong and the espn guy didnt even realize how wrong it was to say that

Totally agree, and I would like to add that racism against asians, especially asian men, is kinda seen as not a big deal. Small dick jokes and all that corny unimaginative shit kinda flies and no one really calls the shit out. Like when I used to live in California for work, I would hear it all the time from coworkers or other people since they tended to think it was cool to say it around me (I am ethnically Slav but was born and raised in Central Asia, where about 80% of the population is asiatic in looks.)

It was especially angering when I would hear it from men who had Asian partners or Asian women, like don’t you have a father who is asian, a brother who is Asian, if you have a son, what the fuck do you think he is gonna look like. Like if some Slav women was walking around saying all Slavic men where women beaters and drunks, like I would be slightly pissed off. I am not even a very SJW type of person but when I got confronted by this type of stuff I usually told them that type of shit wasn’t okay or to think before they speak.

[–][CLE] LeBron JamesLBJ5 78

Yep it is not seen as a big deal at all. The USA even had a CHINESE EXCLUSION ACT and even had japanese CONCENTRATION CAMPS, and the mindset during those times affect us today – much like how black people are stilled affected by slavery today

The perpetuation of asian men is especially sad. Viewed as not masculine , not attractive and statistically not able to get dates. Whereas as asian females are viewed exotic, eye candy that other ethnicities wish to have. The amount of weird and creep instagram comments on a asian female’s profile is astonishing.

Asians lowkey still deal with a lot of racist issues in North America. Nobody cares about it as much with regards to other minorities though but it’s still there

They highkey do, but for some reason it doesn’t get talked about as much compared to gay, women, hispanic/black issues.
